The ONLY Hard Thing About Textures...

. . .choosing the ones you like.
The Texture Edit Box puts the power of the gods at your fingertips (as far as textures are concerned anyway). You'll use this box a lot, so let's get to know it better.
  • Select the cube you want to edit.
  • Select the side with the texture you wish to edit.
  • Click the Paintcan Button button on the ToolBar.
  • (Or go to Tools/Texture Edit)
[A Picture Is Worth...]
[...A Thousand Words]

[Bottom Half - Tex Edit Box] FIRST we'll focus on the botton half of the box. This is where you'll save the most time.

  • Save - this button will save the current side's texture to memory, (both tex1 and tex2).
  • Paste Side - this button pastes the texture(s) in memory to the current side.
  • Paste Marked - pastes the saved texture(s) to all marked cube's sides.
  • Paste Touching - pastes the saved texture(s) to all like-textures adjacent to the current side.

Paste Touching is a Very Powerful Feature

Example: You have a hall 27 cubes long. You want the floor a different texture than it is now. We'll assume the floor is all the same texture.

** Why is this so easy? Have i sold my soul to the Devil? (no pun intended) **

You haven't traded anything for this kind of ease of use. Paste Touching will paste the saved texture(s) to all sides on the same relative plane with like-textures. What this means:

** Paste Touching stops at corners. **

Now, How About that Upper-Half?

  • Align - Align the Textures so they look just right.
  • Draw - Add graffiti or import other textures.
  • Pick - Scroll through a thumbnail collection of all the textures included with DMB2.
  • Lights - Control the lights on a wall (i.e flashing, strobe, etc...).
[Upper Half - Tex Edit Box]

[Align Edit Box] The polygon shown should match the shape of the side selected. If not, click Reset. (it never hurts to do this for any alignment job). The arrow buttons move both Tex 1 & 2. Texture 2 rotation does exactly that (to Tex2 only). I highly suggest playing around with all the functions at least once just to get a feel for them.

The Draw button let's you import a .bmp file to replace the current texture, save a texture to file for editing, or draw on the current texture. Levels with changes of this type can only be played with v1.2 or higher of Descent2. [Draw edit Box]

Pick lets you browse through a thumbnail collection of all the textures included with Descent or Descent2. Left click on a texture to make it Tex1, right click to make it Tex2.

[Blinking Light Edit Box] If the current side has an exploding light as Texture 2,
clicking Add, will make it a blinking light. The selected
dots will blink, at whatever rate you set for them. Once
again, play with it some to get the feel.
